On September 11, 2018 Savannah Fire Chief Charles G. Middleton and his staff joined the runners in the Old Glory Relay for a moment of silence to commemorate the falling of the World Trade Center's South Tower. Runners from Fort Stewart's Team Red White and Blue carried an American Flag from Fort Screven of Tybee Island to Hunter Army Air Field. They stopped the race at Savannah Fire's historic headquarters at 121 E. Oglethorpe St., and paused for a moment of silence at 9:59 a.m., the moment when the south tower fell.
