West 38th Street Fire Injures One, Displaces Three
SAVANNAH, GA (Tuesday, January 19, 2021) – The Savannah Fire Department extinguished a fire in the 900 Block of West 38th Street that displaced three people and left one with second degree burns. At 7:49 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, Savannah Firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the 900 Block of West 38th Street. Engine 5 was first on scene. Firefighters encountered an injured person outside a fully involved structure. The individual reportedly walked away from food that was cooking on the stove and returned to find the kitchen on fire. The individual, who suffered second degree burns in the blaze, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive smoke and fire damage throughout the house. A total of three people were displaced. Remember, always set timers while cooking. Never leave food on the stove unattended. Turn the burners off if you have to leave the room.
