The City of Savannah is proud to announce its official designation as a Bee City USA® affiliate — affirming our commitment to protecting pollinators and building a more sustainable, biodiverse community. Sponsored by the City’s Park & Tree Department, this designation reflects Savannah’s growing efforts to support native habitats, reduce pesticide use, and engage residents in education and conservation.
This milestone follows 19 months of dedicated advocacy led by Sade Shofidiya, founder of Foster Beelief and BEEnevolent, who now serves as Chair of the Savannah Pollinator Preservation Committee. Her leadership has played a pivotal role in bringing Savannah to the forefront of pollinator protection, inspiring action among City officials and community members alike.
Pollinators such as native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects are essential to our ecosystem. They support the reproduction of over 85% of flowering plants and contribute to the health of our environment, our food systems, and the beauty of Savannah’s green spaces.
Savannah’s designation as a Bee City USA was approved by City Council in January 2025 and includes a partnership with Foster Beelief — a local nonprofit organization dedicated to education, conservation, and the empowerment of community-based environmental action.
As part of our Bee City commitment, Savannah pledges to:
Increase the use of native plants across public and private landscapes
Reduce the use of harmful pesticides
Promote community involvement through education, events, and volunteer opportunities
Together, with our residents and partners, we can create a vibrant, pollinator-friendly Savannah for generations to come!
