Burial Information
The Department of Cemeteries maintains five existing cemeteries which are owned and operated by the City of Savannah:
- Colonial Park
- Laurel Grove North
- Laurel Grove South
- Bonaventure
- Greenwich
Each cemetery has a unique character and is historically significant to the City of Savannah.
The department has evolved into a professional provider of high quality cemetery services. Existing services continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of death-care consumers while providing multiple and affordable alternatives for final disposition. In 2000, a professional cemetery services program was created to assist cemetery customers in purchasing interment rights and planning interment services. A full-time cemetery services coordinator is available to meet with families in a comfortable setting and to escort them to cemetery sites. Interment services planned in the municipal cemeteries will be coordinated with any funeral directors and/or monument companies involved. The department strives to provide timely, reliable information and support to customers when making death-care decisions.
The City offers cemetery sites in Greenwich Cemetery at the most reasonable prices in the county. Choices include prime water-front cemetery space, family cemetery lots, economical burial spaces, cremation spaces, and an attractive columbarium (or a mausoleum for cremated remains). Perpetual care is included in the fee for interment rights.
The main office of the Department of Cemeteries is located in Bonaventure Cemetery, and a satellite office is located in Laurel Grove North. These offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments are appreciated but not required.
