General Information

Section 1.01  Cemetery Operations

The cemeteries are operated by the Department of Cemeteries in the Leisure Services Bureau of the City of Savannah. The cemeteries are under the general direction of the Director of Cemeteries whose office is located in Bonaventure Cemetery.


Section 1.02  Office Hours

The main office located in Bonaventure Cemetery is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding City Holidays.

Section 1.03  Cemetery Visitation

Bonaventure, Greenwich, Laurel Grove North, and South Cemeteries are open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.

Colonial Park Cemetery is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM from November through March and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM from March through November in accordance with daylight savings time.

No trespassing after hours is allowed.

Permits are available for approved after-hour activities in Bonaventure, Greenwich, Laurel Grove North, and South Cemeteries.

No person shall enter the cemeteries except through the gates.

Section 1.04  Enforcement of Rules

The Director of Cemeteries or his or her authorized representative shall enforce all rules and regulations and exclude from the property any person violating the same.

The Director of Cemeteries or his authorized representative shall have charge of the grounds and buildings, and, at all times, shall have supervision and control of all persons in the cemeteries, including the conduct of funerals, traffic, employees, owners, families of the deceased, and visitors.

Section 1.05  Cemetery Fees 

Fees for interments, lot sales, and cemetery services shall be established by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Savannah and shall be collected by the Department of Cemeteries.

All fees must be paid by check, money order, or credit card prior to the service provided.

No cash will be accepted.

Fees will be assessed at the established rate for the time the service is rendered.

Section 1.06  Cemetery Records

The Department of Cemeteries shall keep full and complete records of owners and interments and will perform written record searches upon request at a cost determined by the Mayor and Aldermen.

Section 1.07  Service Requests and Complaints

Complaints or requests for service may be reported by telephone to the Department of Cemeteries office at 912-651-6843, the City of Savannah Customer Service Center at 311 or 912-651-6565, or in person to any cemetery office during business hours.

After-hour emergencies should be reported to the on-call cemetery manager at 912-658-4132 or the Savannah Police Department at 911.
