For Immediate Release
Date: May 29, 2015
Every year, hundreds of SCAD students finish the school year, pack-up and move out of Savannah for the summer, often leaving piles of discarded belongings on the curbs and sidewalks of their neighborhoods. Starting today, Friday, May 29, the City, is partnering with SCAD, Goodwill and Keep Savannah Beautiful to help students recycle, put into reuse, or properly dispose of these items.
During this period, SCAD students can take advantage of free pickup of items such as furniture and appliances, from Friday, May 29 to Tuesday, June 2. Residents should place such items where they normally place refuse carts. Staff will also set up in the old Sears building parking lot on Henry Street, between Bull and Drayton, from 9:00 am to 2:30pm, where students can bring items for pickup. Dump trucks will make rounds from Habersham to MLK and Henry Street to East Waldburg. Goodwill will be at the site to collect reusable goods.
This waste reduction effort is also a key component of Keep Savannah Beautiful participation in the Great American Cleanup.
