[ARCHIVED] Mayor issues statement on SCMPD Framework Agreement

For Immediate Release
Date: May 13, 2015

Mayor Edna Jackson issued the below statement today on the proposed Framework Agreement developed by the City and County Managers. The Framework Agreement, as well as statements read at today’s news conference by the City and County managers, are attached.

Statement from Mayor Jackson:

There is no greater priority for City Council than protecting our public and increasing the safety of our community. We have believed from the beginning that a combined City-County Police Department offers us the best opportunity to strategically target crime. I want to thank the City and County managers, along with their staff, for working diligently to develop a framework agreement that preserves the SCMPD while addressing several pressing concerns. This document is a true compromise, and represents common-sense thinking. Through our history, the City and County have always come together to create solutions on the most pressing issues facing our shared community. Today continues that tradition.
