For Immediate Release
Date: August 20, 2014
The City of Savannah today unveiled the 100 Worst Properties list at www.savannahga.gov/blight. The 100 Worst Properties list is part of the Blight to Bright campaign, designed to increase enforcements efforts and raise public awareness of the effect blight has on our community.
The list targets Savannah’s most neglected properties, selected from nominations made by the general public and locations identified by City staff. Property Maintenance staff will be working their way through the list to bring each property into compliance, whether it’s an overgrown lot, a home with overdue maintenance issues, or a dilapidated structure in need of demolition. The 100 Worst Properties webpage includes an interactive map residents can use to track progress on the list and read updates on each property.
Nominated properties that didn’t make the list have been entered into the Property Maintenance work order system, where inspectors will work toward code compliance. Last year the City of Savannah Property Maintenance staff handled 13,466 cases, including exterior building violations, overgrown lots, and derelict vehicles.
As part of Blight to Bright, the City throughout the year will be regularly asking the public’s help, as well as launch an aggressive education campaign, as part of a stepped up effort against blight. Citizens can report blighted properties by calling 311, or using the 311 form at www.savannahga.gov.
