For Immediate Release
Date: July 28, 2014
The following is a statement from Mayor Edna Branch Jackson:
I have been briefed on shootings that occurred over the weekend, and am outraged that the reckless acts of a few individuals continue to put innocent neighbors in harm’s way, and continue to erode our community’s sense of safety. Above all else, ensuring public safety for our citizens is this City Council’s Number One priority. I have asked the City Manager for regular updates on initiatives under way to address violent crime in both the short and long term.
After speaking with the Police Chief and City Manager, I am confident that Police are doing everything in their power to solve these crimes and position our officers to deter additional shootings. But I must stress once again that Police cannot do it alone. Our officers need the public’s help. If you saw or heard something – anything at all – report it.
There are three different ways to provide information about a violent crime while remaining anonymous:
1. Call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.
2. Text CRIMES (274637) and use the keyword CSTOP2020.
3. Contact SCMPD investigators directly using a confidential Tip Line by calling 912-525-3124.
We need your help in order to send these criminals to jail.
