[ARCHIVED] Digital cable equipment available at City centers

For Immediate Release
Date: December 4, 2013

The City of Savannah is partnering with Comcast to make it easier for Limited Basic Cable customers to receive the equipment they need for the conversion to the digital format.

This week Comcast will make the switch to digital on the Limited Basic tier, after which subscribers will need a digital set top box, digital adapter or CableCARD installed to continue receiving cable service. This equipment is free of charge. Customers who have not had digital equipment installed could experience service interruptions.

Comcast has reached out to all customers, but has not connected with everyone. Savannah Alderman Tony Thomas was concerned that many subscribers could not make it to Comcast offices off the Chatham Parkway to obtain the digital equipment, and arranged a deal to make the converters available at two City community centers located on the southside and westside.

“This transition has been difficult for other subscribers, so the goal here was to try and limit the pain that our citizens would endure as much as possible,” Thomas said.

The temporary locations will be open from now until Friday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Temporary pick-up locations:
Moses Jackson Community Center
1410 Richards Street
Savannah, GA, 31499

Crusader Community Center
81 Coffee Bluff Villa Road
Savannah, GA 31419

The digital equipment is also available at the Savannah Comcast Customer Service Center, located at 145 Park of Commerce Dr. Customers can also visit www.comcast.com/digitalnow or call Comcast 1-877-634-4434 to have the digital equipment shipped to them at no additional cost.
