[ARCHIVED] New bulk item collection system introduced

For Immediate Release
Date: January 10, 2014

This month, the City of Savannah Sanitation Bureau introduced a new system for bulk item collection aimed at providing more efficient and cost-effective service to the community.

Residents will still have a scheduled week each month to receive bulk item collection with no additional charge, but collection will no longer be automatic. Residents must call 311 by the Friday prior to their scheduled week of collection to receive no-fee bulk item collection service. The collection schedule is still based upon customers' weekly trash collection day.

Residents will be charged a fee for the collection of any bulk items put out for pick-up that have not been called in to 311 by the Friday deadline. Any items placed out off-schedule will also be removed for a fee. Sanitation calendar magnets were distributed to residents at the start of the year. The calendars can also be downloaded online at savannahga.gov/sanitation.

Bulk item collection is a continued service offered by City of Savannah Sanitation to retrieve and dispose of large items placed out for collection by residents during a one-week period each month. Bulk items include most large household goods, including discarded furniture and appliances. Items that will NOT be collected during bulk item pickup include yard waste, construction material, hazardous materials and liquid waste.
