[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

Date: December 17, 2013

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at the intersection of 43rd and Wessels street, Monday, December 16, 2013. The spill was the result of a break in a gravity sewer main ex-filtrated into the City storm system. The total volume discharged was 110 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 3 p.m. and the spill was corrected at 3:55 p.m. The break in gravity sewer main was repaired immediately. The sewer system was cleaned and evaluated. The storm drainage system was mitigated to minimize contamination of State Waters. Notifications were posted at North Casey Canal.

All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
