City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at the intersection of East 67th Street and Frederick Street, Friday, October 25, 2013. The spill was the result of a break/hole in gravity sewer main ex-filtrated into City Storm system. The total volume discharged was 235 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 9:58 a.m. and the spill was corrected at 10:45 a.m. The break/hole in gravity sewer main is being repaired immediately. The sewer system will be cleaned and evaluated. The storm drainage system was contained to eliminate further contamination of Storm Drainage System. Spill notifications will be put at Eisenhower/Casey Canal, Sallie Mood/Casey Canal and at Derenne Stormwater the Pumping Station.
All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
