City crews respond to minor sewage spill on River Street

SAVANNAH (Dec. 13) – City of Savannah Sewer Conveyance staff responded to a minor sewage spill on January 1 at 300 West River Street in Savannah.

The spill resulted from a control failure at Lift Station 72 and impacted the storm drainage system that flows to the Savannah River. An estimated 245 gallons spilled before being corrected. State Environmental Protection Division guidelines classify this as a minor spill, which is a spill under 10,000 gallons.

The City is making spill notifications via a news release and area signage. All agencies (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and the City of Savannah Office of Marketing and Communications) were notified per state guidelines.
