On Tuesday, September 10, The Citizen Office, along with Keep Savannah Beautiful and the Savannah Morning News presented its first quarterly Golden Broom Award for 2013. The recipient was The Men’s Store by Joseph / On Time Fashion Men & Boy’s Store, located 26 West Broughton Street. Joe, Lana, & Sam Dabit are the owners.

The Golden Broom Award was presented by Alderman ¬Van R. Johnson, Mayor Pro-tem and there were approximately twenty people in attendance.

The Golden Broom is awarded quarterly to a local business chosen for meeting the following tree lawn criteria:
• Visually compatible with surrounding tree lawns
• Use of sustainable & uniform planting
• Creation of a harmonious design
• Functionality of design
• Meeting landscaping challenges

A residential counterpart award, the Green Thumb will be presented to Matt & Ellen Grill, 234 Habersham Street, Savannah, Ga. A certificate will be presented to the Grill’s at the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s monthly meeting on September 24, at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street.
