Municipal Archives to lead Savannah LGBTQ+ history panel
SAVANNAH (Oct. 20) – The City of Savannah Municipal Archives will lead a virtual panel discussion on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in partnership with the First City Pride Center as part of the CAN'T STOP PRIDE Campaign. The discussion will introduce the Archives' Savannah LGBTQ+ Oral History Project, and the public can view the live stream on the First City Pride Center's Facebook page.
This project aims to record the history of Savannah's LGBTQ+ community, in their own words and own voices, and preserve this rich history in the Municipal Archives, where it will be accessible to the public. The Archives continually strives to document Savannah's diverse communities, neighborhoods and citizens. The addition of voices from the LGBTQ+ community will help ensure a more inclusive, informative and complete history of Savannah is available to future generations.
To learn more about the project, view completed oral histories, contribute your own narrative oral history (options for anonymity and delayed opening available) or become a volunteer, visit savannahga.gov/LGBTQHistory.
