Input Sought on Proposed Archaeology Ordinance
SAVANNAH, GA (Oct. 3, 2019) — Since the early 1970s, the City of Savannah has developed and approved ordinances to protect the National Historic Landmark District and other locally designated historic districts.
One feature not included in these or any other regulations is an archaeology ordinance. The City is currently considering the creation of this type of ordinance to allow the community to recognize our archaeological resources, as well as understand and celebrate our community’s unique and diverse history.
Residents are asked to help us with this process by responding to an online public survey available at www.savannahga.gov/HistoryOrdinanceSurvey. The survey will be available to the public through Oct. 14.
Additional feedback not accommodated by the survey questions can be submitted via email to planning@savannahga.gov. A public meeting will be held on Oct. 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center to discuss the public feedback received and next steps.
