City Crews Respond to Minor Sewage Spill

SAVANNAH, GA (April 4, 2019) — City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 6:59 p.m. April 3, at 150 Waverly Way. An estimated 405 gallons spilled before the spill was corrected at 8:20 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was due to a stoppage in the 8” diameter gravity sewer main caused by construction debris. The City’s sewer maintenance staff cleared the stoppage and vacuumed sewage that entered into storm catch-basin(s).

Spill notifications were placed at the spill site, St. Augustine Creek / State Route 21 and at Houlihan Bridge Boat Ramp on the Savannah River. All agencies were notified as required by state guidelines.
