City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1 Al Henderson Drive, Tuesday, June 11, 2013. The spill was the result of a grease blockage in large residential area which caused manhole overflow to storm drainage ditch. The total volume discharged was 2,900 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 9:02 a.m. today, and the spill was corrected at 10:00 a.m. The blockage was cleared and the storm ditch was contained. The mix of contaminated and drainage water was pumped from the ditch back into the sewer collection system. Sampling was done to verify the extent of the spill. Lime was placed on the affected area. Spill notifications will be put at Salt Creek Boat Ramp and at Lotts Island.
All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
