City Turns Empty Lots Into Tree Nurseries
SAVANNAH, GA (February 11, 2019) — The City of Savannah will hold a ribbon cutting at the Savannah Entrepreneurial Center to celebrate the transformation of an empty city lot into a tree nursery at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27th.
Funded by a Green Infrastructure to Green Jobs grant, this pilot project will seed and nurture more than 500 trees, which will ultimately be transferred throughout the City in one to three years. The first empty lot to be converted is located at the Savannah Entrepreneurial Center.
Loop it Up Savannah, UGA Marine Extension, Georgia Worksource Coastal, Victory Gardens, Momentum Development Solutions and Savannah Tree Foundation have all partnered with The City of Savannah's Sustainability Department to bring aspects of workforce development, community engagement and art to the project.
