City Joins SCCPSS in Celebration of Arbor Day
SAVANNAH, GA (February 8, 2019) —City of Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach will join the Park & Tree Commission and the City of Savannah Greenscapes Division in the annual Arbor Day Celebration and Tree Planting Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15.
President Dr. Jimmie Cave of the Stem Academy at Bartlett Middle School will host the celebration. This year, the City will plant two Aeryn Trident Maples at the Stem Academy.
Since 2001, over 20 locations have received trees on behalf of the City to be planted in celebration of Arbor Day. Past schools include: Sarah Mills Hodge Elementary, Garrison Elementary, White Bluff Elementary, Frank W, Spencer Elementary, Benedictine Military School, Gadson Elementary and Juliette Low Elementary.
Holding National Arbor Day is part of the Arbor Foundations requirements for being recognized as a Tree City. The City will be receiving this distinction for the 34th straight year.
The City’s Greenscapes Division will also be partnering with Savannah Tree Foundation, to plant a tree for Georgia Arbor Day in Hudson Hill Park.
