City Encourages Enrollment in Great Savannah Litter Pick Up

SAVANNAH, GA (February 5, 2019) — The City of Savannah is encouraging organizations to sign up for the Great Savannah Litter Pick Up by contacting Carliss Bates at 912-651-6703 or by sending an email to cbates@savannahga.gov.

Residents can participate by partnering with their neighborhood, or their preferred civic organization, to assist with their planned clean up. Residents can also participate in the Adopt-A-Spot program and adopt a street, park or neighborhood. Students can receive community service hours for their participation.

Any civic-minded organizations, such as Garden Clubs, neighborhood organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups, junior or senior high school student councils, Rotary Clubs, etc. can adopt a spot. When adopting a spot, the City will furnish and install an Adopt-a-Spot sign stating the responsible organization provide assistance to remove debris collected at the adoptive site and provide safety vests, gloves and plastic bags to aid in the litter removal activities. Interested organizations can also register online at www.savannahga.gov/adopt-a-spot.

“We encourage all citizens to participate in the Great Savannah Litter Pick Up,” said Outreach Coordinator Carliss Bates. “It is an opportunity to clean our neighborhoods of unwanted debris and an opportunity to improve our great City.”

The 2019 Great Litter Pick Up is the first event to kick off the Great American Cleanup which is a Keep America Beautiful national initiative that runs from March to May. Keep Savannah Beautiful, the local affiliate of Keep America beautiful, will be providing litter kits to assist neighborhoods with pickups and will collect trash when the collection is completed.
