Council Approves Earlier Sunday Alcohol Sales

SAVANNAH, GA (November 20, 2018) — The Savannah City Council has approved a referendum passed during the general election that will allow on-premises alcoholic beverages to be served beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, as opposed to the previous earliest time of 12:30 p.m.

In May, Governor Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 17, which gave local municipalities the option to vote to begin Sunday alcohol sales at 11:00 a.m., rather than 12:30 p.m.

Close to 70 percent of voters in Savannah voted in support of the change on November 6, 2018. The signed ordinance goes into effect immediately. After approval of the Motion to Amend the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance to allow on-premises alcoholic beverages to begin at 11:00 a.m., Mayor Eddie DeLoach signed it to make it official.
