SAVANNAH, GA (October 28, 2018) — Beginning Monday night (October 29), resurfacing operations will be begin on Montgomery Street, between the I-16 off ramp and Broughton Street in downtown Savannah.  This is the first phase in the City of Savannah's plan to convert Montgomery Street from one-way to two-way traffic.

All parking for this segment of Montgomery Street will be blocked as early as Sunday afternoon to ensure the road will be clear by Monday night for the milling operation.  The resurfacing operations will be limited to weeknights (8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) and are expected to be complete within three weeks.  No detours are expected and traffic disruption should be limited to lane closures.

Future enhancements will include new traffic signals and informational signs.  The projected opening of the new southbound lane will be announced at a later date.

Montgomery Street is being converted to two-way traffic to better accommodate access the City's new Cultural Arts Center which is under construction on the corner of Montgomery Street and Oglethorpe Avenue.  It is scheduled to open in 2019.
