SAVANNAH, GA (October 23, 2018) — The City of Savannah will be hosting two meetings regarding the Civic Center and future Savannah Arena on Tuesday, October 30.
Civic Center
At 4:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Ballroom, the Urban Land Institute will present a preliminary report in a Special Council Workshop that considers the highest and best use for the redevelopment of the Civic Center site.
The Urban Land Institute is a non-profit organization that provides research and advising services on real estate development and urban policy.
Savannah Arena
At 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Ballroom, the City will unveil multiple exterior and interior designs for the new Savannah Arena for public feedback.
After gauging responses from thousands of online surveys and multiple town hall meetings, designers from Perkins + Will have created three concepts which will be unveiled at the Civic Center. The City and the design team will ask residents to weigh in about what they like and dislike about each concept.
The design team will take feedback from the meeting and create a final design incorporating the positive elements from the designs presented. The final design will be presented to council for approval in the coming months.
The nearly 260,000 sq. /ft. Arena is being paid for by funds raised by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST. The next SPLOST referendum to fund capital projects will be on the ballot in November 2019.
