City Hosting Cleanup in Savannah Shines Neighborhood
SAVANNAH, GA (September 20, 2018) — The City of Savannah will be hosting a neighborhood cleanup in the “Savannah Shines” Edgemere/Sacksville neighborhood on Saturday, September 22.
The City will be providing trash bags and other tools to remove trash to volunteers from the Edgemere/Sacksville neighborhood and Georgia Southern’s Treasure Savannah. Volunteers will cleanup streets and lanes from Waters Avenue to Salvador Street. Savannah fire fighters, police officers and code compliance officers will also be available on-site for education and outreach.
The event will begin at the corner of East 55th Street and Waters Avenue at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 11:30 a.m.
Edgemere/Sackville is bordered by East 53rd Street, Waters Avenue, Parnell Street and the Truman Parkway. The Edgemere/Sacksville neighborhood was selected as the City’s first “Savannah Shines” neighborhood. Neighborhood revitalization is one of the City’s priorities for the Savannah Forward strategic plan.
If a neighborhood association is interested in conducting a cleanup in their neighborhood, they should contact Keep Savannah Beautiful at (912) 651-6703. Keep Savannah Beautiful can provide tools for waste removal, waste collection at the end of the cleanup event and a guide on how to organize a neighborhood cleanup.
