City Hosting Fair Housing Seminar
SAVANNAH, GA (September 17, 2018) — The City of Savannah is hosting a Fair Housing Celebration Education & Resource Fair in partnership with the Savannah Area Relators on Saturday, September 22. The event is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Fair Housing Act.
The City encourages local professionals who work with people in need of housing and who work with individuals who experience challenges in finding adequate housing to attend the event. Informative sessions on various housing related topics will be held at the Savannah Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Director of the Fair Housing Division of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity, Allona L. Cross, will be the luncheon keynote speaker.
Informative sessions include:
- Credit Counseling & Repair
- The Legalities of Home Buying & Cyber Crimes
- Homeownership Protection
- ADA Rights & more
The federal Fair Housing Act is intended to protect the buyer or renter of a dwelling from seller or landlord discrimination based on the individual’s race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or disability.
The Office of Human Services is requiring individuals interested in participating to RSVP by Wednesday, September 19. Participants can RSVP by going to www.savannahga.gov/fairhousing2018 or by calling 912-651-6520.
The City’s Fair Housing Act event aligns with the Savannah Forward strategic plan priority of Economic Strength and Poverty Reduction.
