City Breaks Ground on Pennsylvania Avenue Resource Center

SAVANNAH, GA (July 17, 2018) — The City of Savannah broke ground today on a new SPLOST-funded Resource Center, located on Pennsylvania Avenue between Clemson and Elgin streets. The center will provide services and programming for children and adults.

Once completed the Pennsylvania Avenue Resource Center (PARC) will be a two-story, 19,000 square foot facility that will include a fitness room, an art class room, a game room, a computer lab, teaching classrooms, a serving kitchen and café and a commercial-style kitchen for teaching culinary arts.

This morning dozens of people attended the ground breaking ceremony, including Mayor Eddie DeLoach and District 3 Alderman John Hall.

“Welcome to the Pennsylvania Avenue Resource Center, a source of pride for the eastside.” said Alderman Hall. “I anticipate this being a hub of activity for all residents from two to 92.”

The center will offer many programs to the public including housing and home ownership assistance, connection to public assistance programs, youth/adult education assistance and job training and placement assistance.

Pine Gardens Neighborhood Association President Tonyla Boyd said “This is a dream come true. The kids in the neighborhood need a place to interact. This community center is a project that we’ve all been waiting for.”

The project cost of the PARC is $7.25 million which is funded through voter approved SPLOST 6 funds. The PARC is estimated to be completed by April 2019. The project was designed by Hussey Gay Bell, a civil engineering and architecture firm. The contractor is JE Dunn Construction.

The new PARC aligns with the City’s Savannah Forward Strategic Plan and promotes Neighborhood Revitalization, Economic Strength and Poverty Reduction and improves Public Safety.
