Results of CNU Legacy Projects to be Presented Saturday

SAVANNAH, GA (May 18, 2018) —On Saturday, City of Savannah officials and staff will wrap up hosting the world’s leading planners, architects and developers from the Congress for New Urbanism’s (CNU) 26th annual meeting with a presentation on the conclusions made from the workshops held earlier this year.

In March, CNU hosted two teams of national urban design experts to lead public workshops in two locations: Eastside Savannah and Southside Savannah.

At 11:00 a.m. the City will present an overview of the Southside Legacy Project with world renowned architecture and design firms. The vision created during the March workshops aims at transforming an existing low-density, high-traffic commercial area into a complete neighborhood. The proposed suburban retrofit provides a focal point for future population growth, promotes walkability and biking, and increases opportunities for public transit. The panel will discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the vision plan as well as the tools and techniques available to making it a reality.

At 1:30 p.m., City Officials and staff will present an overview of the East Side Legacy Project with world renowned architecture and design firms. The vision created during the March workshops examines the growth of 19th century cities and discusses strategies for enhancing the area through specific interventions at both micro and macro levels.
