City Testing Colored Bike Lanes
SAVANNAH, GA (April 18, 2018) — The City of Savannah is testing two types of green material to add color to existing and future bicycle lanes in an effort to make bike lanes more visible and identifiable to traffic.
The City is testing two types of paint products: methyl methacrylate and thermoplastic. The demonstrations are being done at no cost to
the city. City staff are looking at the ease of application, durability, maintenance, longevity and cost of the products.
The samples are currently located at the intersection of Lincoln and Huntingdon Streets and Lincoln and Gwinnett streets. The color green is used nationwide to minimize confusion with other standard traffic control markings.
The City is encouraging, bicyclists, motorists and the general public to provide feedback. Go to http://savannahga.gov/BikeLaneColorPublicComment. The City is accepting feedback until May 18.
