City Crews Respond to Minor Sewage Spill

SAVANNAH, GA (March 21, 2018) — City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 9:31 a.m. today, March 21, at 309 W River St. An estimated 145 gallons spilled before the spill was corrected at 10:00 a.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was due to a blockage in gravity sewer which caused one manhole to overflow. City of Savannah Sewer Maintenance staff cleared stoppage debris and cleaned the gravity sewer main with City jet-vacuum trucks.

Spill notifications were placed at the spill site and at Hutchinson Island. All agencies were notified as required by state guidelines.
