City crews respond to minor sewage spill
SAVANNAH, GA (January 26, 2018)— City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 10:30 a.m. today, January 26, at 1482 Dean Forest Road. An estimated 1,800 gallons spilled before the spill was corrected at 12:30pm. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
The spill was due to a blockage in gravity sewer which caused two manholes to overflow. City of Savannah Sewer Maintenance staff removed and mitigated overflow. Sand bags were placed to contain the discharge from getting into Horseshoe Creek and spread lime on area that came in contact with sewage/discharge. Spill notifications were placed at the spill site, Retention Basin and Salt Creek Boat Ramp. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
