For Immediate Release

SAVANNAH, GA (December 11, 2017)—The National League of Cities' (NLC) new president has appointed City of Savannah Alderman Van Johnson to serve as a Vice Chair of the NLC Advisory Council for the 2018 calendar year.  The Advisory Council is made up of past board members who are still in elected local office.

Alderman Johnson just completed a four-year elected term on the NLC Board of Directors, being only the fourth Savannahian in NLC's 93 year history to do so.  He has also served as Chairman & Vice Chairman of the Human Development Steering Committee and as a member of the Institute for Youth, Education and Families.

"What an honor to graduate to another level of leadership on the national level, said Johnson.  "This appointment ensures that Savannah stays ahead of the curve in federal advocacy efforts with this new administration and Congress."

"Alderman Johnson remains one of NLC's strongest advocates and remains on the front line in addressing issues that cities, including Savannah, are facing nationwide,” said Clarence Anthony, Executive Director of NLC. "We are fortunate to continue to have his experience on our leadership team."

Alderman Johnson will serve with Chairman Mike Sesma, from Gaithersburg, Maryland and Vice Chair is Joe Moore from Chicago.

National League of Cities serves the interests of 19,000 cities, towns and villages in the US as well as professionals working in municipal government.
