City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1:21 p.m. Friday, October 13 at 313 East River Street. An estimated 245 gallons spilled before the spill was corrected at 2:10 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
The spill was due to a grease blockage which resulted in a manhole overflow. City crews cleared the blockage and washed the area down with Jet Vacuum trucks. Spill notifications were placed at spill site(s) at the river.
All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
