[ARCHIVED] Carver Village residents invited to History Round-up Day

For Immediate Release
Date: September 18, 2017

The City of Savannah invites all current and former residents of Carver Village to take part in an upcoming History Round-up Day to help document and preserve the unique history of this neighborhood. City of Savannah archivists will be on hand at the Carver Village Community Center, 905 Collat Street, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20 for the History Round-up Day.

Residents are asked to bring in photographs and memorabilia related to the neighborhood, as well as participate in the Oral History Station where they can share memories of their community through mini-oral history interviews. City archivists will digitize the items and interviews for the City of Savannah Municipal Archives, where they will be available to all citizens for future research and access.

In preparation for the History Round-up Day, residents of Carver Village are encouraged to gather photographs and two-dimensional items, as well as start reminiscing with neighbors and jotting down notes about memories of the neighborhood. The City is interested in documenting a range of aspects of the neighborhood, including what Carver Village looked like at different times in history, particularly its early years, as well as community events and activities, community leaders, and area churches, businesses, and schools.
