[ARCHIVED] Residents asked to secure trash carts, collection halted

For Immediate Release
Date: September 8, 2017

The City of Savannah is asking residents to secure their sanitation carts for the duration of Hurricane Irma. Doing so will prevent carts and litter from causing property damage, and reduce unsanitary conditions in City streets, lanes and neighborhoods. Securing carts could include rolling carts onto private property, securing them in a garage, tying them down and/or taping shut cart lids.

Yesterday the City announced it would cancel residential refuse, yard waste and recycling collections normally scheduled for today (Friday). This decision was made due to the evacuation and preparations related to the approach of Hurricane Irma. Collection of this route and all other routes will resume as soon as possible following the clearance of the weather event.
