The City of Savannah Citizens’ Academy graduated its Spring 2013 Class on Tuesday following an eight-week program designed to immerse residents into the workings of their City government.
Members of the graduating class are: David Miller; Christy Hardy; Deborah Barker; Barbara Flowers; Demetrie Shavers; and Christy Brozowski.
“Information is power, and these citizens now have the power to make a real difference in their neighborhoods,” said City of Savannah Citizen Engagement Coordinator Carliss Bates. “Our hope it they will take what they learned and work with their City Government to create solutions.”
The graduates wrapped up a two-month program that provided overviews on key City functions such as Police, Fire, Sanitation, Water and Sewer, Budgeting, Public Development and City management. Class members met with key personnel, took tours of a number of City facilities and projects, and engaged in other hands-on activities.
