[ARCHIVED] City reaches 5,000 on Facebook

For Immediate Release
Date: April 3, 2013

The City of Savannah today reached 5,000 followers on its Facebook page, Facebook.com/cityofsavannah.

Social media plays an important role in City communications efforts, as online audiences migrate from routinely visiting multiple websites to heavy use of sites like Facebook, which allow users to easily aggregate information related to a variety of personal and professional interests. This past St. Patrick’s Day, the City used dedicated Facebook and Twitter accounts to relay time-sensitive information to the public about the parade and festival. Between March 10-16, 142 staff updates were posted to the St. Patrick’s Day accounts. During peak usage, user comments, likes and shares boosted the St. Pat’s extended audience to over 48,000.

In addition to Facebook, the City can be found on these social media sites:• Twitter.com/cityofsavannahInstagram.com/cityofsavannahPinterest.com/cityofsavannahFoursquare.com/cityofsavannah
