[ARCHIVED] City to celebrate Arbor Day with tree planting at Heard Elementary School

For Immediate Release
Date: February 14, 2017

Members of City Council, Park & Tree Commission members and City Park & Tree staff, will join with Heard Elementary School teachers and students for an Arbor Day celebration and tree planting ceremony at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 17. The Arbor Day program will include a presentation of the City’s Arbor Day Proclamation. The school is located at 414 Lee Blvd.

The City of Savannah has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation since 1985 in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is in recognition of the City meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

For more information contact the Park & Tree Department at 912-651-6610.
