[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

Date: January 20, 2017

City of Savannah Water Resources crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at the City of Savannah I & D Treatment Plant located at 6183 Highway 21, Port Wentworth. An estimated 75 gallons spilled before the leak was corrected at 2:30 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was caused by a break on a 3” force main from a sewage grinder station. City crews turned the station off and City maintenance crews repaired the break. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site at the plant and at the St. Augustine Creek/Highway 21. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
