[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

For Immediate Release
Date: October 10, 2016

City of Savannah Water Resources crews responded to a minor sewage spill yesterday, October 9, at a lift station in Magnolia Park.

The spill took place at 1:51 pm on Oct. 9. An estimated 1,170 gallons were spilled before being corrected at 2:30 p.m. The spill was caused by a storm-related power failure at the lift station causing a manhole to overflow. A portable generator was put into action until power can be restored. Spill notification markers will be placed at the spill site where it goes into the Casey canal and Canal at Eisenhower. All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.

The spill was classified as minor spills under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
