[ARCHIVED] City suspends non-essential services in preparation for storm Friday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: September 1, 2016

The City of Savannah is suspending all non-essential services, including Sanitation pick-up, on Friday, September 2 in preparation for the impact of Tropical Storm Hermine.

City offices and programs will be closed to the public on Friday. Police and Fire emergency services will remain operational. Residents can report non-life-threatening issues, such as fallen tree limbs, to the City by calling 311. If a resident witnesses a situation that poses a threat to life safety, such as a downed power line, they should immediately call 911 and avoid the area. City crews will remain on duty to clear fallen tree limbs and debris, and maintain overall regular operations of City infrastructure.
The City anticipates that normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, September 6, after the Labor Day Holiday on Monday.

The City asks everyone to avoid driving if at all possible during this weather event. Residents will be safest sheltering in their homes. The City will post any informational updates online at savannahga.gov, facebook.com/cityofsavannah and twitter.com/cityofsavannah, and distribute through all local media outlets.
