Date: June 17, 2016

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 5859 Abercorn Street at 11:32 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016. The spill was the result of an overflowing manhole caused by an unknown stoppage in the gravity sanitary sewer main. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 580 gallons. The spill was corrected by 12:30 p.m.. City crews cleared the stoppage with City jet-vacuum trucks and mitigated the spill site. A wireless alarm will be installed to give staff an advanced warning if the system ever becomes surcharged again. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site, at Casey Canal at Eisenhower, Casey Canal at Sallie Mood Driver and Casey Canal at Montgomery Crossroads. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
