City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 37 Port Royal Drive, on Wilmington Island at 9:16 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016. The spill was the result of an open sewer lateral clean-out while City of Savannah repaired a sewer cave-in. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 5,600 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
The spill was corrected by 1:00 a.m. City crews repaired the sewer cave-in and mitigated the spill site. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site, at Penn Waller/Betz Creek, and Walthour Road/Betz Creek. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
