Feiler Park Welcome Sign Unveiling 04042016.jpg

For Immediate Release
Date: April 4, 2016

District 5 Alderwoman Dr. Estella Shabazz, Alderwoman At-Large Carol Bell, Feiler Park Neighborhood Association President Rev. Betty Jones, and neighborhood residents joined with representatives from minority contractor, M.C.N. Construction and City staff today to unveil a new welcome sign for the Feiler Park neighborhood. The sign is located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Meding and Montgomery Streets.

“The completion of this sign is the latest of nearly $2.25 million in neighborhood capital improvement made by the City,” said Alderwoman Dr. Estella Shabazz. “It is the result of the Feiler Park mini urban redevelopment plan that was adopted by the City in 2004 with support from neighborhood residents and property owners.”

Residents in the surrounding neighborhood are taking steps to improve the appearance of their neighborhood and worked with the City to create a new sign for this key neighborhood park. Other related capital improvements in the area include: the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Meding and Montgomery Streets; the realignment of the curve in Meding Street at West 57th Street; installation of neighborhood sidewalks; and creation of the West 57th Boulevard leading to the Montgomery Landings Apartments. Area improvements have resulted in the development and sale of 11 new houses on vacant neighborhood lots with 2 more new houses on track to be built and sold by minority contractor/developer Willie Dasher at the end of West 58th and 59th Streets.
