[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at Mikell Avenue, east of Dean Forest Road, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. The spill was the result of a directional drilling contractor boring into a sewer force main. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 1,200 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 2:30 p.m. The force main has been repaired and the spill site has been cleaned and mitigated. Spill notifications will be placed at the spill site, at Pip-maker’s Canal and at Pipe-maker’s Canal at State Route 21. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
