140th City of Savannah Council to be Inaugurated Jan. 2
SAVANNAH (Dec. 19, 2023) – The 140th Administration of the City of Savannah will be inaugurated on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
The 2024 inauguration will take place at the Savannah Civic Center’s Johnny Mercer Theatre at 7 p.m. The general public and media are welcome to attend.
The ceremony will feature a musical prelude from Teddy Adams and the Savannah Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars. Savannah Police and Fire Departments will present the colors ahead of the national anthem. There will also be a vocal music selection before the eight elected members of City Council take their oaths.
Mayor Van R. Johnson, II will be sworn in for his second term and deliver the inaugural address. Following an ecumenical/benediction and adjournment there will be an invite-only reception in the ballroom with music by Savannah’s Nickel Bag of Funk. There will be public reception on the second floor.
