Three City Playgrounds Close For Major Renovations
New Fitness Zone Under Construction
SAVANNAH (Nov. 30, 2023) – The City of Savannah Recreation and Leisure Services Department have begun major upgrades on three playgrounds and various repairs on more than 18 playgrounds around the City.
Summerside Park, Bowles C. Ford Park and Hitch Park will be closed for the month of December for the major portion of the renovations. All renovations and repairs, part of the Recreation Re-Imagined initiative, are expected to be completed by the end of February.
“We are excited to introduce a number of new features in our playgrounds as we continue to upgrade and repair the City’s recreation facilities,” Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Nick Roberts said. “We scheduled these renovations over the winter months so residents can enjoy all the updated and new equipment first thing in the early spring months.”
Major upgrades coming to Summerside include the City’s first fitness zone, which will replace the old playground unit near the basketball court. New water fountains, play space, and picnic grills will be installed in Bowles Park. Hitch Park will feature a new shade canopy covering the existing play area along with a new whirl.
