The Planning, Zoning and Urban Design Department provides a range of planning-related services to enhance the livability, sustainability and vitality of Savannah. It handles business location approvals, issues zoning confirmation letters, reviews development site plans and issues short-term vacation rental permits.
City Council approved a new zoning code and zoning map, "NewZO," on July 18th, 2019 to replace a code dating to the 1960s. It went into effect on September 1st, 2019. To learn more about NewZO, we have produced an informative video. We also have an executive summary available.
