March 3, 2017 Update

Posted on March 3, 2017 at 8:10 AM by Saja Aures

Crews continue to work on the new bridge to span the future Bilbo Canal, just west of the Rail Road tracks. The concrete piles for the first phase of the bridge are driven and crews have started to work on bridge caps that will sit on the pilings.

The fill dirt that is being placed over the old roadway to bring it up to the level of the new road is nearing completion.  Once the desired elevation and soil compaction are reached, trucks will start hauling in the rock base in preparation for asphalt.

The exterior of new water valve control building complete with electrical work soon to follow. The valve control building will allow above ground access to water valves that serve Hutchinson Island as well as industries along President Street. The previous valve configuration was located in an underground vault near the marsh in the same general area. High water table in this area caused this vault to fill with water, making access and operation difficult. The new design is state of the art and will allow for remote monitoring as well as ease of access.

The water line connection in the median of President Street near the intersection of Truman Parkway is complete and lanes reopened.

On General McIntosh, crews are working on the last of the utilities to install. Fill was added to the new roadway to match President Street’s elevation. Next, it will be time to add the rock base, curbing and finally pavement.
